We call upon social mobilizations to demand a ceasefire and dialogue one year after the start of the war
Feb. 22, 2023

One year ago, in February 2022, the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine transformed into an open war, the conflict that had existed in Donbass since the Ukranian government, with the complicity of the EU and the US began to harass the Russophone population in this territory. This is in breach of the Minsk Agreements that could have guaranteed peace to that region.

From the very first outbreak, the PCE condemned both Russia’s invasion of Ukrainian territory which is in breach of the international law, just as NATO’s intention to extend itself into the border of the Russian Federation, breaking the existing consensus after the unification of Germany.

We have defended and continue to do so that it is impossible to build a European policy of peace and security by increasing militarism. This year of war has worsened the crisis that Europe was already facing, causing new migratory crises in which millions of human beings have to live in subhuman conditions, suffering from all kinds of atrocities, such as the kidnapping of women for sexual exploitation.

The economic sanctions imposed on Russia are also impacting on the people of Europe. They have caused an increase in energy prices, skyrocketed inflation, and raised interest rated, which has had an impact on mortgage rates.

After this year, the situation is truly dangerous. There is no negotiation channels, and only military solutions seems to have been contemplated. Therefore, we reiterate our defense of a fair and negotiated solutions to the conflict that respects international legality and the right to security of all nations in the region.

We work in all national and international scenarios to get Spain to abandon its involvement in the conflict, to stop sending weapons, and training military personnel for the Government of Zelenski, and to join the group of states that are developing a strong Peace Diplomacy towards this conflict. These states are Mexico, Colombia, China, Brazil and the Vatican.

We call upon participating in the mobilization for February 24th and 25th worldwide, which from various pollical and ideological positions will demand that the United Nations convene a Peace and Security Conference to end this war and restore international law.

Lastly, we should not forget that there are 25 other armed conflicts worldwide, such as in Syria, Palestine, or the Western Sahara, in which innocent victims multiply, and the cynicism and double standards of the US and its NATO allies are evident, for whom international legality only exists when it serves their interests.

Against the imperialist offensive that seeks to bring the world into a new Cold War, we defend multilateral international relations that bury the logic of military blocs and put an end to colonialism in any of its forms so that the United Nations can recover the original meaning of its Founding Charter.

¡It is time to make peace!

Let’s stop those who make wars.

Ceasefire. Dialogue.
