An explosion close to the Patriotic Union headquarters in Medellin set all the alarms last October 6th. The explosion injured four people and the causes are still under investigation. This episode was confirmed by the Administrative Department of Disaster and Risk Management and also by the firefighters that were in the scene.
The explosion occurred while people from the UP of Medellin were working on the day to commemorate the dignity of the victims and the homage to Campo Elías Galindo, who were a researcher and history professor at the National Colombian University. Campo Elías was tortured and killed last October 1st in his home right after he published on the web a research article reporting the corruption between Grupo Empresarial Antioqueño (GEA) with the Uribism.
Besides, this episode took place after Paloma Valencia (a senator of the Uribe political party Democratic Center) affirmed that Gustavo Petro (candidate for the UP) would never be a president.
For all these reasons, we call upon a further investigation, and ask the government of Duque to set protection and security guarantees to the political opposition.
